How State Laws Interact with Federal 55+ Rules

In addition to federal HUD guidelines, states maintain their own real property codes (such as Chapter 720 in Florida, Chapter 209 in Texas, and the Davis-Stirling Act in California). Furthermore, some states—such as Florida—mandate that 55+ communities register biennially with state human rights agencies to maintain their senior exemption status.
